A pH indicator is used to measure the acid-base property of a substance. These chemical detector for hydronium ions (H3O+) or hydrogenions (H+) are mostly weak acids and responds to changes in the hydrogen ion concentration. The pH changes to different colors depending on whether they are added to an acid, a base or a neutral substance.
