Critical points occur when the derivative of a function is equal to zero. If a minimum is to occur at x=2, the derivative at that point must be equal to zero. That is;
[tex]df(2) = 0[/tex]
where df is simply the derivative of f(x) (sorry I'm on my phone and it doesn't have the proper notation).
