The first step would be to find an attainable goal that you can actually reach. If you cannot reach that goal then you should not set it.

The first step in setting goals is planning with determination. Generally, any goals being set should be equipped with determination (power to attain it), being fearless, able to accept failures along the way, bravery (regardless of any circumstances being faced) and focus. :)
