The character of Arachne represents the outcast archetype. In Greco-Roman mythology, Arachne was a talented mortal weaver who challenged Athena, goddess of wisdom and crafts, into a weaving contest; this hubris resulted in her being transformed into a spider.  

To add, an outcast is a person who has been rejected by society or a social group.
