First, simplify the (x+2)(x+2) with FOIL:
f(x)=([tex] x^{2} +2x+2x+4[/tex])-3
Combine like terms
f(x)=[tex] x^{2} +4x+1[/tex]
Then you have standard form.

Hope that helps.
