Ralph's group exhibits common sense and a desire for long term survival. They are concerned with keeping the signal fire burning, building shelters, and the good of the group as a whole.
Jack's group is concerned with instant gratification. They are bent on hunting..... period. They place no importance on anything but the hunt, and they do not participate in any preparations for a long term stay on the island. They quickly descend into barbaric behavior.
