x+y = 16

If

x-y = 3

Now, Adding both equations, we get

x+y+x-y = 16+3

2x = 19

x=19/2 = 9.5

y = 16-9.5 = 6.5

Now y-x = 3

Now, Adding both equations, we get

x+y+y-x = 16+3

2y = 19

y=19/2 = 9.5

x = 16-9.5 = 6.5
