Ethyl alcohol, often known as ethanol, is the same as methyl alcohol, also known as methanol.  The terms ethyl alcohol and ethanol as a fuel are not interchangeable. You can drink ethyl alcohol; but, if you consume ethanol for the purpose of fuel, you will either die or become seriously crippled. However, the chemical molecule ethyl alcohol employed in both is the same.
