Not sure what you mean by "how to solve". I suppose just plug in the values (m=slope and b=y-intercept) and go from there.

it's an equation where both x and y are without any indices. just x and just y.

Not [tex] x^{2} [/tex] or [tex] x^{4} [/tex] or [tex] \sqrt{x} [/tex] or [tex] y^{2} [/tex]   <= this is not linear
