Before dividing, the cell must go through interphase. There are three parts of interphase : G1 where the cell grows, S where DNA is copied, and G2 where the cell prepares for division. Interphase is the longest phase because the cell needs to grow.

Before mitosis, interphase happens and interphase also happens before meiosis I. it does not happen before mitosis II though
