Why did no one originally want to fund Columbus' Journey

since they’d expect something in return (profit) off of his journey they thought it would be a slim and low chance of getting huge profit off of it so they believed it was not worth the funding since it seemed like a impossible journey due to the low knowledge of the ocean and other side of the world.
