2(-4 + 6x) = -104
Multiply the number outside of the parenthesis with the numbers inside the parenthesis
-8 + 12x= -104
Add 8 to both sides
12x= -96
Divide both sides by 12
Final answer: x= -8

If you are trying to solve for x, then you want to use the distributive property:
2(-4+6x)=-104
2*-4 +2*6x
-8+12x=-104
+8           +8
12x=-96
divide 12 on each side to get x by itself
