x^2 + 8 is equal to in this case 8^2 + 8, which is 64 + 8, which is 72. x -5 in this case is equal to 8-3, which is five. so your sander would be 72/5.

I assume you mean (x^2+8)/(x-5)?

If so, we have:

(8^2+8)/(8-5)

(64+8)/3

72/3

24

So the value is 24 when x=8

Hope this helped!
