The right answer for the question that is being asked and shown above is that: 

This can be answered using the Pythagorean Theorem.
h2 = a2 + b2
h = square root (8^2 + 5^2)
h = square root (64 + 25)
h = 
square root (89) in
h = 9.4 in

So the correct answer is 9.4 in given the dimension 5 inches and 8 inches.
