How did the railroads change the population of the West?

The population of the West was greatly risen because railroads allowed large quantities of people to travel across America to reach the western areas at a low cost. It was also very time efficient.  The economy of the West was also boosted because goods could move from area to area much faster. People moved out to the west to get money, so many flocked to the area.
