x = 5 or x = - 1

equate f(x) and g(x)

x² - 7x + 3 = - 3x + 8 ( subtract (- 3x + 8 ) from both sides )

x² - 4x - 5 = 0 ← in standard form

(x - 5)(x + 1) = 0

equate each factor to zero and solve for x

x - 5 = 0 ⇒ x = 5

x + 1 = 0 ⇒ x = - 1
