To add fractions together, you must convert the smaller fraction ([tex]\frac{1}{2}[/tex]) to a denominator that matches the other fractions denominator.

In this case, 1/2 would become 4/8

We can add 4/8 to 7/8 to get 11/8

Then we can add the 1 to it, which acts as 8.

Which gives us 19/8

Or 2 3/8
