when you divide a whole number by a decimal less than 1, the quotient is greater than the whole number. why?

When dividing by a decimal we an expansion as more units are required, hence why a dilation of a fraction expands a function. When numbers go into decimals less than one there is a greater proportion required that didn't exist with a whole number
