Just like
today, bishops and priests performed different roles in the early Christian church. A priest was
responsible for managing the relevant local activities and leading worship
services. Bishops on the other hand had the responsibilities of explaining to
the locals the Christian beliefs in details, defining the everyday church
teachings as well as taking charge of their area of headship which was commonly
referred to as archbishop.
