Chemical engineer Carol Lin has developed a technique for recycling clothes made of cotton and polyester blends. The fungus Aspergillus niger breaks the cotton down into glucose and leaves pure polyester fibers behind. This technique could prove valuable given the prevalence of poly-cotton blends, which are very commonly used in contemporary clothing.
