How do you get the answer for the variable a in the pythagorean theorem formula ([tex]a^{2} +b^{2} = c^{2}[/tex])? I don't have numbers to substitute it, just the formula on its own. I'm a little confused on how to or how you get certain numbers for this type of math with only variables that have no number to correspond with.
